Artist Statement

My work has its genesis in the emotional trauma surrounding my birth. I am a bereaved-at-birth twin. This state of being has driven a life-long interest in the nebulous; those thoughts and feelings that are so hard to pin down and explain to others. John Donne wrote, “No man is an island, Entire of itself.” We are relational beings, and the concept of relationship permeates my work.

My installations have all been about emotional relationships; mostly about the loss of a relationship, the expression of deeply felt hurt. My work with sheer fabrics speaks of the difficulty in grasping a feeling or memory or thought or idea that is just out of reach. In a similar way, reflections offer a doorway into an alternate reality, or bring two disparate objects into relationship. The concept of working in layers carries over into my prints and pastel works, where both media lend themselves to this way of building up images.

Artist Bio
I am interested in the nebulous, by which I mean that which is on the edge of consciousness. I work across a range of media to capture experiences and emotions that are just out of reach. Inspired by the works of Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, and Fujiko Nakaya, I look to make work about the edge of reality. As well as working in textiles, I use paint, print, sound, video and collage.

I studied Fine Art at the University of Northampton; BA(1st) and MA(merit).
I gained a UoN MA Professional Development Residency Award with the NN Contemporary Art Gallery, Northampton.
For English Heritage I created 'Testament - Enlightenment and Downfall' for Rushton Triangular Lodge.
